“Why do I need to evangelize?”

At that time, answer like this: <2019-11-30 제1272호>

“Why should we preach Jesus?”

“Evangelism is the work that pleases God the most, the reason Jesus came to this earth, and the purpose for which he called and raised us. Even now, Jesus’ greatest concern is the salvation of souls.”

...

First, evangelism (salvation of souls) is the work that God the Father is most pleased with and the worship He accepts with the greatest pleasure.

Second, evangelism is the purpose of Jesus coming to world.

Jesus himself said that he came to this world to save souls. There was an incident where Jesus visited Peter’s house and cured Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever. When this rumor spread, all the sick people in the town came to Jesus. Jesus cured them all and went up to the mountain to pray the next morning. Then Peter and the disciples came to Jesus and told him that the townspeople were looking for him. They probably wanted to express their gratitude for the miracle and grace Jesus had given them the day before. But Jesus did not receive that glory.

Jesus replied, 'Let us go somewhere else-to the nearby villages-so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.'”(Mark 1:38)

Jesus also met Zacchaeus, a rich man and chief tax collector in Jericho. ... People were displeased to see Jesus entering the house of Zacchaeus, whom they considered a sinner. To these people, Jesus once again explained the reason for his coming to this earth.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).

In this way, whenever Jesus had time, he said, “I came to this earth to save souls.” If the reason Jesus came to this earth was to save souls, then we must do the evangelism that Jesus wants.

Third, the reason Christians must evangelize is because Jesus called us to save souls. There is a scene where Jesus calls Peter and Andrew as disciples. Jesus wanted Peter and Andrew to save souls. That is why He said, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Jesus wants us to become fishers of men too.

Jesus also told his disciples that the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, and he wished there were more workers to harvest (Matthew 9:37-38). Jesus is still calling us as workers to harvest (salvation of souls). There are many people in the world waiting for salvation. We must become workers and take on the missionary work.

Fourth, the purpose of raising us is also for evangelism. Christians receive education and attend various meetings to grow in their faith. God also wants our faith to grow. After training the twelve disciples, Jesus sent them out on an outreach mission. At that time, he spoke to the disciples about salvation of souls.

“These twelve Jesus sent out, commanding them, ‘Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter you not; but go rather to the sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, preach to them, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’” (Matthew 10:5-7).

The purpose of our being raised is to save lost and dying souls. Evangelism is the work that God is most pleased with, and it is the reason Jesus came to this earth. Evangelism is the purpose for which Jesus called and raised us. Even now, Jesus’ greatest concern is the salvation of souls.
