Pastor Chuck Lawless, a professor of missions at Southeastern Theological Seminary in the United States, recently wrote an article in Church Answers titled, “5 Reasons Why Prayer Must Accompany Evangelism.” Here are the main points:
1. Evangelism is a spiritual battle.
We can expect attacks as we move forward with the gospel. Prayer is needed.
2. You can't open a blind mind.
Our prayer is to ask God to change our hearts even as we obediently preach the gospel.
3. Evangelism is never easy.
Even evangelicals like the apostle Paul needed the prayers of others to boldly and clearly preach the gospel (Eph. 6:18-20; Col. 4:2-4).
......You cannot preach without the power of God.
4. Prayer is a confession that we need God in this process.
5. Continuous and genuine prayer compels us to practice evangelism.
